Chad Cota was the hero of the 1996 division clinching win over pittsburgh as He intercepted Kordell Stewart in the end zone for what could have been a game winning TD for pittsburgh. Instead it sealed a victory for Carolina and gave the Panthers the division crown for the first time in the team's history in their second year of existence.
